After Marina Bay I felt so tired, wanted to look for a place to have a rest, so I looked through the Tripadvisor to check any possible place to rest, then I found this church, used to walk passed by while I was staying at my first hostel in Singapore, and I told myself I must go visit there some time....(so apparently it was the "some time" that I mean...and here I'm)

By using the phone GPS, I arrived at this church! Actually I love church a lot because of their architecture unique style, so I won't never miss a chance to take picture of a church! Situated in the Civic District, the St Andrew’s Cathedral is the largest and first Anglican Church in Singapore. Designed by Colonel Ronald McPherson in a Neo-Gothic style, the current St Andrew’s Cathedral was built in 1856 after the original building was damaged by two lightning strikes.

Maybe it's because hard to find architect willing to build some like this, like those a bit retro style of church...

The church was closed on that day, therefor I didn't get to visit the inside...Walk into the cathedral via its arched entrance and you’ll see three multi-coloured stained glass windows that fill the apse (or the recess of a half-dome). Each one dedicated to an important person in local history, Sir Stamford Raffles’ panel sits in the middle. And if you’d like to learn more about the cathedral’s history, take a walk over to the visitor’s centre for artefacts and more.

The side view of it

Well, apparently it's open on Weekend only, so unfortunate that I didn't get a chance to see the inside...Umm, maybe next time in the future??
********************************************************************************

DeleteLove all these old churches in Singapore. One nice one is St Joseph's at Victoria Stree' so nice. Love the interior too. Not into the modern ones. Another one is the Church of the Holy Infant, Waterloo Street...but they've sold it, I think - now a nightspot, pub or something.
ReplyDeleteReally? Will check it out next time, serious...I'm crazy fan of church architecture so never want to miss it!! =]
DeleteSt Andrew Cathedral, is this the place call Chjmes ah?? i have been there, many times just go there see see look look lah.. but got one time i makan there, because the client belanja so got the chance to eat there, hahaha!! BTW, this place is also nice at night with all the lighting leh.. :D
ReplyDeleteGot makan meh? I can't remember la, I know all around is office building and shopping center, maybe that's inside the shopping center duh!
DeleteThe Chjmes is an old Convent school, opened at night only for makan.. korean and western food.. very sad that old convent schools have turn to entertaining pubs and stuff.. but one has to maintain the structure.. very nice architectural designs, those days the builders were very meticulous in their designs...
ReplyDeleteYah, now all the buildings are more towards to the high tech style, hardly see they build something like this anymore, plus the materials also hard to get nowadays!
Delete
